New to Orienteering?

Beginner family

Orienteering is an exciting adventure sport suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It combines map reading and running. Competitors have to find their way between a series of checkpoints, called controls, as quickly as possible. There’s no set route between the controls, so you have to decide which way to go and then find your way there without getting lost.

At our Half-Yearly meeting yesterday we decided to continue to offer assistance to schools who approach us for help but also to try and engage with School Staff to encourage their own involvement with STAG without any pressure to bring their students along.

We also hope to make contact with more Youth Groups and Uniformed Organisations and offer to set up 'Orienteering Taster Sessions' at mutually agreeable venues in 2026.

The commitment to the 3 Primaries mentioned below shall be fulfilled between October > December 2025.

Friends of STAG Membership in 2026

Friends of STAG Membership - is available for those who wish to be associated with our Club but are not currently regular participants. The Club fee charged allows the Club to charge individuals the same fee as other STAG Seniors for up to 3 of our events. 3 activities are also covered after which you are encouraged to upgrade to STAG/SOA or STAG/SOA/BOF Membership to benefit both yourself and the sport. STAG does not have any policy to cover those who join as Friends of STAG.

British Orienteering now charge Non-BOF Members an additional 95p on the levy at events and 3rd party insurance cover through them is not valid. Scottish Orienteering do have a policy which would apply to SOA members.

STAG 'benefits' from your involvement and doesn't lose out financially.

In 2025 we had 4 members including Neil and Dave (ex members now living in England) who joined at this level.
